So for my Sociology class, we had a group project in which we go and break a social norm. A norm is a behavior that is accepted by our society. For example waiting in line at a grocery store is a social norm that all people are familiar with and accept. So what if we decided to break that norm? Well my group decided on breaking this particular norm in order to see the different reactions we will get. At first I was nervous to do this since it’s not something someone would do. And I also didn't want to piss of any stranger who just wants to get his items checked out and leave. I'm pretty sure mostly everyone would have a problem when some stranger decides to cut in line. We wouldn't be happy about that. To do this social experiment we went to the main dining hall here on campus. Its an ideal place since it's a busy place where people go and order their food. We would find long lines that people wait in to check out their food. We found that we got bad looks from the people around us. Some even told us to get back in line. My group mates also got the same reaction from other people. In the end we presented our finding to the class. They found it pretty funny on what reactions we received. Overall I enjoyed doing this social experiment and I would do it again if I had too.

  1. Your group's project was really funny and interesting. I know that I do not like when people cut in line, so it is normal that they would react like that!
